Textiles

I am an avid fiber artist and quite interested also in textile production in the ancient Mediterranean. I have been sewing for a long time, especially making clothes for myself. I picked up knitting after that, and embroidery. More recently, I have taken a class in weaving on a modern floor loom, and built my own mini warp-weighted loom(s) (and explored a bit of tablet weaving). Most of my textile time these days is spent spinning on a drop spindle, and I just started crocheting dolls as well.

Use the links above to explore some of my (mostly) classics-related textile projects. For sporadic updates on my fiber arts in general, check out my textiles instagram, @baylasews.

In the spring semester of 2025, I had the joy of teaching an undergraduate course on ancient Mediterranean textile production. You can view extensive documentation, including all of my course materials, here, or through the link above.
