Ἀνακρέων ἰδών με

       ὁ Τήϊος μελῳδός

       (ὄναρ λέγω) προσεῖπεν·

       κἀγὼ δραμὼν πρὸς αὐτόν

5     περιπλάκην φιλήσας.

       γέρων μὲν ἦν, καλὸς δέ,

       καλὸς δὲ καὶ φίλευνος·

       τὸ χεῖλος ὦζεν οἴνου·

       τρέμοντα δ’ αὐτὸν ἤδη

10   Ἔρως ἐχειραγώγει.

       ὁ δ’ ἐξελὼν καρήνου

       ἐμοὶ στέφος δίδωσι·

       τὸ δ’ ὦζ’ Ἀνακρέοντος.

       ἐγὼ δ’ ὁ μωρὸς ἄρας

15   ἐδησάμην μετώπῳ·

       καὶ δῆθεν ἄχρι καὶ νῦν

       ἔρωτος οὐ πέπαυμαι.

1 Ἀνακρέων: Anacreon was a 6th century lyric poet canonized as one of the 9 great lyric poets by the Hellenistic scholars of Alexandria. He was associated strongly with the symposium, revels, wine, Bacchus/Dionysus, and Eros/love, especially for young boys. For more, see Introduction.
